HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE RUNCIMAN !The woodwork you see around you in Doxford Hall was produced under the expert eye of George Runciman. George was born in 1929 to a farming family in the Scottish Borders.
At the age of 14 he took up a woodworking apprenticeship and soon displayed great aptitude. At 24 he was offered employment with London’s most prestigious joinery manufacturer, working on a number of prominent palaces and cathedrals both at home and abroad, but wishing to return to his roots, in 1979 he settled in Jedburgh and established the specialist joinery firm now known as Runciman and Redpath. Using his skill and experience he personally selected all the timber and quality was paramount. He has worked continuously and closely with the owners Brian and Shirley Burnie since 1997. This relationship has resulted in the naming of the magnificent Dining Room ‘The George Runciman Restaurant’.

Open daily, the George Runciman Restaurant serves both lunch and dinner to day visitors and hotel residents. The traditional table d'hote and à la carte menus change with the seasons assuring guests of varied cuisine.
Enjoy afternoon cream teas or a pre-dinner drink in the Drawing Room, overlooking the original estate. The more fortunate may catch sight of a red squirrel from the protected colony within the hotel’s gardens. The George Runciman Restaurant also serves a delightful Sunday Lunch. For conference guests, private dining is available in the George Runciman Restaurant or within your chosen conference suite.
